Note there has been a chef change since our visit.
Another tip off from the Pugh's of the fabulous
Le Mimosa brought us to Uzès on a splendid
clear spring day for lunch. Everyone was dining in the sunlit but tree
shaded courtyard at the back which has a fountain to give it a cool and calm
feel. Also, almost everyone was sampling the 17€ two course plus coffee set
menu.
The starter was a citron marinated salmon and cod with a light mixed salad - delicate and balanced and much better than it sounds. The main dish was a whole char grilled sea bream on a spring cabbage and pinenut base with a stripe of red pepper purée. This was superb in ingredient quality and execution. We also opted for a couple of desserts from the carte - a chocolate flan with a separate pineapple creation and a lemon soufflé with a milk ice cream. These pairs are served separately and our only observation being they were more two separate desserts than an integrated dish.
The wine list doesn't yield any bargains but does have the novel idea of offering all the wines by the half bottle. The entry priced red was a delicious perfumed local syrah, a brilliant example of what a house red should be, although at 19 € is should be. We bought some later at the vineyard and have evidence of the seriously hefty mark up. Nevertheless, this is effectively Provençe territory and there was evidence everywhere that this is a quality operation. A place to follow.
